This year three entries from City of Armagh High School have been selected to go through to the regional finals of the Junk Kouture recycled fashion competition 2020. This competition is in its tenth year and has established itself as the leading fashion competition for teenagers throughout Ireland promoting recycling and creativity.
Year 11 student, Leah Rainey has designed and created ‘The Story Begins’. This elegant dress is made with discarded packaging, medical bandages, hessian sacks, plastic bags and white seat belts. Leah, with the help of Rachel Lee Treverton and Sasha Evans have combined a range of techniques; knitting, fraying, sculpting and stitching to create this statement dress.
Year 12 student, Mani Nedelchev has created ‘Street Picasso’, a glitzy suit inspired by Bollywood street dance. He has used discarded cds to create a mosaic effect and added delicate embroidery techniques to capture Picasso style drawings. Mani has also collaborated with year 10 student, Diyana Dobreva to create another outfit, ‘Lady Francoise’. The two outfits were designed as a duo and Diyana and Mani will perform on stage together in the Millennium Forum Theatre on Thursday 27th February.
All of the students have worked exceptionally hard and the school would like to congratulate them on their achievement in getting through to the northern regional finals.
